#233218 Savage Trophy hunter package?

Posted by Kirk Smith (ksmirk) on 27 April 2016 - 04:59 PM

Thing about the Savage is say down the road you get tired of say you get a 243... knock the barrel loose, unscrew and put say a 308 or 7-08 OR change out the bolt head and go to a 223 OR WSM or about any other short action caliber. I know you probably have heard it before but do yourself a favor and buy a good scope! it might take a week or months of skipping lunch out but your eyes will thank you in the long run and you'll be happier. #232446 IPSC Rifle Match - OKCGC - March 26th

Posted by Kirk Smith (ksmirk) on 19 April 2016 - 07:46 PM

I for one hope I actually show up to shoot the next one and would rather not fall on my ass BUT I had a good time even as I shot like the stuff I sometimes step in the pup leaves in the yard. I didn't know what I was getting into and didn't have time to practice anything and can say that while pistol skills seem to stick around running the AR didn't but who cares I got humbled! I did pop that little tile though and it went poof :) Later,

Hey looking at the scores after the stage drop I still sucked! pretty sure about the only thing I did well Saturday was the superman dive coming out of the Cooper tunnel lol guess I should spend a little time behind the AR instead of the 243. Oh well had a good time and I might actually show up for the next one. Later,

Shot like crap, nothing that the word rifleman would even remotely come close too, busted my ass pretty fair coming out of the Copper tunnel but had a good time! it was different shooting and I can tell I need to spend a touch more time (a damn lot of time) behind the AR but ya know beers and BS'in with good folks after made the match. It's good to see some folks I've not seen in a couple years and honestly I realize I missed shooting. Mike and Curt you know this was fun.... maybe we should try it again here soon? who knows I might even practice :-O Later,

#229562 No Firearms Allowed at Boomarang Diners?

Posted by Kirk Smith (ksmirk) on 18 March 2016 - 01:46 PM

Hell I don't have any of the guns the signs say are banned so I'm good :)

In all honesty I don't really pay much attention anymore but I don't carry open as I'd rather not be the first target if someone comes in to do harm and if you conceal well enough no one will know anyway... heck only reason I got my permit was to be legal. Later,

There may be an old barn around we could paint you a big target on and MAYBE we could stretch your effective range out to 30 yards :-O but that could take a large barn lol later

Used to be years ago and got out of shooting for awhile, divorce and some other little things the money for membership and fuel out there were directed to other more important things. Been trying to get joined back up for the last few months trying to get back into it, back into matches not really sure yet.

Just got an email from Carey and pretty much said if we couldn't work something out with the match coordinator were pretty much hosed on membership as we have to be there at the times stated. Oh well shit happens.... I'm shooting the match and going to have a good time, drink some beer with the amigos afterward and talk about how awesome it was :) Later,

It's not the quantity but the quality of your practice :onthequiet:  Matt I'm not that great! 6" groups are about the best I can pull off give or take an inch at 1K and that's not often.

Burk you signing up your horse to shoot.... only way you'd not come in last BUT if he had thumbs it would may be a toss up  :sarcastichand:  Later,

#227105 which scope rings for bolt gun?

Posted by Kirk Smith (ksmirk) on 19 February 2016 - 07:45 AM

We need to talk Mr Rigsby, for rings look no further than TPS damn good rings and won't break the bank, I'm guessing med height rings BUT depending on your rail height you may be able to pull of lows. I'd recommend getting the scope and rifle all lined out then perform the penny trick :) look up the scope ring video for 8541 tactical and you'll see where I'm going... pretty much stack pennies until you get the height for the scope to clear and you being able to see thru it then measure the stack add half the tube od then you'll know the rings you need.

The 243 I just finished I can go super low rings BUT the scope is too low when I get a cheek weld so went with low rings. Later,
