#144405 Brass mongers at local USPSA event.

Posted by Dux-R-Us on 12 April 2013 - 09:07 AM

Most of you know I am one of a few that still shoots .45.  In the past I never had a problem recovering my empties after I shot a stage.

Well last week at OKCGC was too much for me.  Now that brass is hard to come by, there were a couple of people following not only me (but others as well) picking up all brass when it was still hot.  No kidding, they were like ducks after June bugs and the .45 was the juiciest meal of all!   I

I only had about 25 pieces of brass in my pocket when I left the match.

A plea to all; can we be respectful and at least allow each shooter to retrieve their own brass?

Gee, I feel a whole lot better having got that off my mind.

Tally ho!

The Duck.

PS  Those great big holes in the paper of my targets are the work of Mitch Harrington's .45 LSWC 200 gr. cast slugs.  They always feed in my S&W 1911.

#143000 Just some happy Easter AM thoughts

Posted by Dux-R-Us on 31 March 2013 - 07:48 AM

Christ is Risen!   If you're Jewish, Islamist or atheist, please disregard.

This week on National Peoples Radio (which I love and sponsor), a reporter went through a litany of the items gunman Lanza (Newtown School killer) had in his safe.

The items were so similar to what I have (save the sword) that it struck me as odd.  Apparently having 10 firearms, a bayonet, knives and 1,000 rounds of ammo is meant to shock the public.  It was as if the message between the lines on having that amount of fire arms and ammo was a precursor to going on a crazed shooting.

If the media only knew what most of us own they would have a field day.

I watched a very interesting National Geographic documentary on Net Flix last week; Science of Evil.  Very early in the program the point was made that in extreme cases of violent crime (such as Lanza's) what is seen is the end result.  What is not revealed or known are the histories and circumsances that lead up to the crime.   People with no history or abuse of mental illness just don't wake up one morning and decide out of the blue to go and commit violent acts.

Got to go!!!  I thought I just saw the Easter bunny dash between the trees out back!!  If I can bag him, we'll have rabbit for dinner and a butt load of chocolate!!

Tally ho!

Oh Great Outdoor Oracle, thou art great in thy wisdom and overall greatness.

I humbly ask thee when we can expect the white bass to begin their spawning runs.

Thanks Dennis,

Kevin

Carry the bucket?  If you used a 12 pack of beer the times would have been faster.

#140788 PanSTARRS comet as seen in OK

Posted by Dux-R-Us on 13 March 2013 - 08:02 PM

For those of you who might have trouble seeing it.  Look West about 10 degrees above horizon ca 1/2 h after sunset.  Use binonculars.

This was tonight's view from Stillwater.  You won't see this much tail live.  This is a 15 sec. exposure.

Hope you enjoy.

Kevin

Here is my thank you for putting on the match and all the work from the RO's.

I had a good day.  I will have to get the official USPSA results, but I believe I finally did it today; broke out D class into C class!   This is a true milestone for me.

Cheers,

K

my old adage is keep saving up and looking. don't be in a rush to buy.  the right gun and deal eventually comes up.

I would never own an 870 Express.  A Wingmaster yes, but not the express.

for 3 gun, listen to the above.

#130933 Comments and Questions that should be banned

Posted by Dux-R-Us on 18 January 2013 - 12:22 PM

Taking a few of my words without considering and sharing the context of my entire post seems to be a bit misleading and intellectually dishonest.  My entire post is below...

I never said Christians = gun owners so I'm not sure I clearly understand that comment.  I am a Christian but will always support and respect other faiths (even those with none) and other points of view.  Comparing God to Mother Goose doesn't seem helpful to me but again, I support your right to express your opinion.  I am an educated Christian man who is passionate about his beliefs but am always respectful and open to other points of view.  I am not angry or ingnorant... or intolerant... and I will not allow myself to be labeled as such.

My original post was about my concerns regarding a clear and present danger... and what I consider to be a dire threat to our liberty... and to our freedoms.  It's not just about gun control or the 2nd amendement.  Its not just about free speech or freedom of religion... it's about our way of life... and the very foundational ideas on which this country was founded.  In my opinion (and it is only my opinion), many of these freedoms are under attack.  Freedom of speech is being limited.  God and Christianity are under attack as well.  Other freedoms such as the right to bear arms... are being questioned and/or eroded.  What's happening now is the culmination of decades of work... a 'progressive' re-interpretation of the constitution... and a deliberate and well orchestrated attempt to rewrite or redefine or repackage our liberty into something that looks quite different than what our founding fathers intended.  The constitution is certainly not perfect but it establishes a system that protects our basic rights and freedoms and ensures against tyranny and that power and liberty rest solely with the people... not the government.

Good post.  Spot on.

Thumper, we are not so different as you may originally have thought.

Today, everything is being questioned and evaluated as it should be.  Yesterday, everything was quesitoned.  Tomorrow, everything will be questioned.  If not, then there is no hope for human kind to take on and solve the problems of Life.  Without constant evaluation and meditation, there can be no growth of the mind, spirit, or body.

Many things I post are intended to stimulate critical thinking and to get people to express themselves. I do not intend to make personal attacks, however, sometimes the reader may feel I do.  The reaction to written words are the responsibility of the reader, not the author.

This country was founded by men, not God.  Men are fallable, God is not.  The men who founded this country were briliantly minded and daring to create a system that was not static and dead, but dynamic and living.  They built in the ability to enact change at the will of its citizens.  If this were not true, the US would not have survived 20 years, let alone 236 years.

The Bible (which is a record of God's revelation of Himself to man) is a living document, even though much of it was written more than 2000 years ago.  The US Constitution is a living document as well.  Both writings have been and will continue to be read, studied, and evaluated by men.    If men ever men quit these processes, then both the Bible and the Constitution will be no longer be living documents.  They will be the dead words of dead men and Hope will vanish.

I leave you and all people with the banner words of Pope John Paul II: "Be not afraid."

Respectfully,

Kevin

PS, now that I am finally recovered from the influenza, I am leaving the house to enjoy this warm winter day and the freedom to go as I choose, speak as I choose, worship as I choose, and to shoot my rifles.

#124108 Waterfowl

Posted by Dux-R-Us on 04 December 2012 - 05:14 PM

I've been incognito for a while. Thanks for the compliment on the teal hunting pics, Dennis!

Nice job, Porter! I've only shot a few mallards so far this year. Been shooting mostly Gadwall. Around 90 percent of the places I hunted last year are bone dry....we need a lot of rain.

But I did get a little lucky Thanksgiving morning... shot this guy on Sooner Lake.

Also my hunting buddy and I introduced his sister to waterfowling. My friend Kasie from my previous post got a shotgun and joined me on another hunt.

My experience has been most first time duck hunters either get hooked for a lifetime, or they never want to do it again.  From that big smile I am thinking we have a new duck hunter added to the ranks of the obsessive crazed.

Good on you!

Tally ho!
