Hi Friends;

If I want to shoot my BHP, which division would could I use it in? I want to take advantage of the 13 rounds it holds, which is a lot more bullets than I have been used to shooting (Single stack .45, n= 8 ).

I know that its not an ideal gun to be competitive with others, but I am only concerned about competeing with myself at this point. Eventually I will get a S&W M&P 9mm that will hold 17 shells for shooting USPA.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

(I had to drop out of the shoot today at OKCGC because my back was hurting so badly. I really blew stages 2 and 3, and 4 was just not fun. I can't concetrate with level 8-9 pain and taking pain killers stronger than Tylenol is not an option when running about with a pistol.)

You would have better results in production. Loading those 13 Round mags up and shooting limited minor would be taking a disadvantage in limited rather than any advantage with added capacity.

BHP isnt Production legal.
Wonderful guns, but just not suited for most competitions.

I'd bet you $50 nobody would notice at OKCGC!

You got $50? I wouldn't have noticed not would I have know or cared if it was a single action gun.

Of course I just shoot for fun. There are lots of really competitive guys with eagle eyes watching for sub minor ammo and more than 10 rounds in those production mags.

Rules are rules we have them for a reason. If everyone just does what they want we should just throw the rule book away.

why not just get some extended base plates and really load the mags up? Then shoot limited minor, just like the zekester?

When I had a HiPower, I also had some Argentine 17 round mags that helped close the mag capacity gap to shoot Limited. However, minor scoring is a great disadvantage. (Sold it years ago because it chewed up the web of my hand)

If you want to shoot Limited and be competitive, you really want to look at a .40 with mags that can be modified to hold 19 or more rounds.

If you are going to shoot 9mm Prod, remember that USPSA rules are 10+1 rounds.

If you are content shooting Limited minor and go with a M&P, I'd still consider getting couple mag extensions to give you +6 mag capacity.

No, I dont have $50, thats the point, if I pay an entry fee, I want the rules to be followed.
Shooting on a level playing field is what makes it fun.
As for "eagle eyes" 2 of the most important things an RO (and the scorekeeper) should be doing are:

1. Determining that the proper ready condition is satisfied. (A gun, BHP or other, cant start in Production in a 'cocked and locked' condition)
2. RO's and scorekeepers are required to count shots in capacity restricted Divisions. It's one of the most basic duties they have.

So, have fun shooting the BHP, but do it in Open, Limited, or Lim-10.

In theory, it would be a great ESP gun in IDPA, if not for the mag-safety PITA.

In the early days of IPSC pre-USPSA, The 3 most common guns were: 1911, BHP, Python. 2 of them turned out to not be suitable for competition, even though they are all fantastic guns.

I looked around for some BHP extended basepads because I thought that building a 40S&W Hi Power into a Limited gun might be a cool thing but I don't think anyone makes any.

You can buy 20-round Hi-Power mags from Mec-Gar. I almost did that once.

That sucks about your back. The BHP is a great gun. My dad gave me one for my 21st birthday. If you are just shooting it to compete with your self that's cool. But it doesn't really lead itself into a good division for uspsa.

And one thing that will never happen.
It's all fun and games until a crono shows up at the okcgc match. If I can see your bullets all the way to the target, it's probably not major.
