For clubs and people wanting some targets that really ring

While in Phoenix I was able to shoot some interesting steel targets and they REALLY ring well no matter where hit. Basically all the plates are free floating on a piece of rubber conveyor belt. A section of old tire in the tread area would probably make a good substitute. From my understanding the targets in question have been in use for around 5 years and look to me like they could easily last another 10 more. The pictures are not the greatest and also include the stands so if someone wanted to make a clone they probably can pretty easily though I would likely make a couple changes for my own setup on the stands.

looks like a poor mans version of the metal bracket MGM targets uses on their B/C zone steel to get it to swing backwards when hit. The bullet splash then goes down for the most part.

I wonder if the rubber helps make them ring more?

Added a couple more pictures that I needed to rotate. Not using my regular computer so it's a little slower.

And yes the rubber acts as an isolator so that it is able to ring a little better. Out of all the places I have shot a steel challenge type match these have been the most stable and rang the best. The second best was at the Ponca City club where the plates hang from a hook.

I wonder what would happen if I sandwiched a piece of rubber In between my MGM C zone???

I would get some old valve springs and mount them between the plate and the bracket on those targets. Just some longer bolts and some nylon keeper nuts so that you don't have to crank them down tight to hold. It will space them out about an inch or so but the spring should give it a little more ring for shots right near the bracket.

Kinda like this:
